NOTES
1:
This term is being used as a convenience for the modern reader. It was not an official term at the time of this timetable.
2:
Known as "clockers" in Pennsy days for their hourly departures, and a name resurrected later under Amtrak, these trains were unnamed in the first Amtrak timetable.
3:
Stopped in North Philadelphia, then passed via the "New York-Pittsburgh Subway" track at ZOO tower -- on the north side of the tower -- to the west, without stopping at Pennsylvania Station (30th Street).
4:
Started/terminated at Pennsylvania Station, New York. Ex-PRR to Hell Gate Bridge, then ex-NYNH&H to New Rochelle and Boston via Shore Line.
5:
Started/terminated at Grand Central Station, New York. Ex-NYC to ???Spuyten Duyvil, then ex-NYNH&H to New Rochelle and Boston via Shore Line.

NOTES
1:
Ran combined with Broadway Limited between Harrisburg and New York.
2:
Jacksonville--St. Petersburg train number not listed in Amtrak timetable, taken from the pre-Amtrak train listing in Edmonson (vide infra).
3:
Amtrak's first timetable (May 1, 1971) showed this train operating via DRG&W Denver--Salt Lake City. But D&RGW declined to join Amtrak, so it operated on UP via Cheyenne instead. This train was named California Zephyr west of Denver. The Denver Zephyr name was the only one used in Amtrak's next timetable (July 12, 1971), which showed the train's actual route and schedule.
4:
No train names were shown in Amtrak's first TT.
5:
This train operated southbound on Mon, Wed, Thurs and Sat. and northbound on Mon, Tues, Thur. and Sat. Those were days when the Seattle-San Diego trains did not run.
6:
Santa Fe also operated for Amtrak the San Diego extension of the Seattle train. It operated under Nos. 11/12, the same numbers used by SP north of Los Angeles and by BN between Portland and Seattle.
